Slab Inking

Here is an inking of John K's character, Slab.

I will post more inkings soon and also a piece I have been working on.

Here are my attempts inking two of John K's drawings in Toon Boom.

First is the finished product, then the comparison and lastly the original drawing.

Here is my 2nd attempt...

This is my first time inking so any advice from anyone is appreciated.  I am going to practice the exercises John posted on his blog so that I could refine my understanding about how line defines form.

Thanks for stopping by!

Mural with Stephen Booth

This is a mural I painted with Stephen Booth. I did the devil child and Stephen did the

angel dog.  There is plenty of weird gags in it.  This is Stephen's website,

http://stephenbooth.tumblr.com/, he is a very talented artist/cartoonist/musician.

Stephen and I have been talking cartoons, jamming out and drawing together so

there will be more collaborations in the near futureeee....

That's it for now I will update more soon...

Baby Shower Invitation

My co-worker and friend, Christine Shilling, wanted me to design

a baby shower card for her friend.  Here is the result...

Here is in ink.

Here is the card and the font inside.  Christine chose the font and colors.

She had the colors, composition and subject all chose out for me.  It was

a pleasure to work with someone as organized as her.

The front of the envelope

Christine took the pattern I used for the leaves and made this beautiful

abstract design for the back of the card.

Here are some close-ups...

Tree waves goodbye....

Student Mural and Shirts

This year I substitute taught several times at Explore Charter School in Brooklyn.

Most of the staff and students there knew I could draw and I offered to help

create art for Explore school's talent show, "Explore Idol."

Ms. Welch enjoyed the idea and here is some art I did...

First I created several posters for the event, I think 25 screenprinted.

It was inspired by the "American Idol" logo.

After those posters I created about 36 t-shirts with the

Explore Idol logo in a variety of colors for the students

and staff to wear.

Lastly, I was asked to paint a background inspired by a beach.

The background had to be BIG, 6' x 8', and I was only

given black paper to paint on.  Also I only had 4 hours to do it, so I had the

students help me paint.  Here are the results...

As you can see, the mural was too big to fit on my camera, but

it came out beautifully.  The students did an excellent job with their help, I wish

I took pictures of the process.

Here it is hung outside.

And here are some students performing in front of it.

Working on this mural with the kids was my proudest moment being a substitute teacher this year.  Many times this year, I had to tell the students to keep on task and control  any misbehavior during my sub lessons.  During this project, the students wanted to help me get this feat done and they did with such grace.  They worked together and focused less on blaming each other on mistakes.  If someone "screwed up", I would always come up with a solution to fix that problem.  It was an amazing experience, which made me realize the importance of teaching and also helped me feel more close to the community of Explore Charter School.

Window Art!!!

Here is an old window painting I did last winter at my old

job at Lucky 777 Chili....

My bosses, Lou and Chris, allowed me to paint on their store window.

It was fun, Lou knew the cartoon character that inspired my Santa.

Could you guess which cartoon character I referenced in this painting?

And on the front door...

More art soon...

Student Work/Work for Students

Recently, I have been drawing caricatures for my students here are some...

Some bizarre boy band, Mindless Behavior?

For the boys and my friend Stacy.

There is a reason for that blue on Amare's glasses...

here it is...

Artwork from a sweet girl, Bahiyah, from my art volunteer program.

I like her drawing of me, I will be doing the program again next year!

Don't forget Wade!

These are very quick doodles I did for my students.

I enjoy the fact that the kid made Goku and African-American,

I dig that.

This is a character from their nutrition book, Brian Broccoli and he is very strong.

Of course! Mermaids!!!

Regular Show drawing (sorry about the quality of pic)

This is a drawing I was able to recover from my stolen sketchbook. I found

out who took it, but sadly I did not get it back... Long story, don't ask!

I will upload more stuff later, take care!
